Glad I found this site! I get the box of coins from my bank and the head teller gives me bags to return them. Now I come in with the bag full ($1,000 halves) once a week and she hands me 2 boxes. No paperwork or anything ;D

These are the coins I've found in the last month. Pics of just the silver halves.

The last 2 are not silver and there is no copper in the metal. I tried to look these errors up but couldn't find any info. Anyone know what's up with these coins with no copper?

Sounds like a good system to me- no fuss no muss. I don't know about them coins but I've got (2) '68's that show copper just like the clad coins- don't know what's up with that either. I only been at this about 6 weeks myself. Hey my banks don't give me canvas bags, what's up with that haha. I'm taking in Chocholate halves today- see ifn that makes any difference. HH Mark

The ones that don't show copper were probably chromed or electroplated with something after they got into circulation. You got it made taking coins bank to the bank unrolled!!

That is great but I would start marking those halves because eventually you will start getting them back. I have looked at $48,000 worth and I do not dump where I buy and I still get back at least 10% of my previousally searched coins. (or someone else uses the same mark and brand/color of marker) ;D

The bags she gives me are heavy duty plastic and hold $1000 worth of halves, I then seal them and take them to the bank. She then throws the bag into the safe and the Loomis armored truck guys do the rest. She even fills out all the information needed on the bags for me ;D Hope the chocolate halves make a difference for you ;)

Geez I didn't even think of them being chromed or electroplated. I thought I had some rare planchet error worth millions!! ;)

The first time I brought the halves back I rolled them and placed them in the boxes. She yelled at me! Said to use the bags and that it saved her from breaking the rolls and bagging them herself.

Funny you should say that about marking the coins...... I thought my silver takes on the boxes dropped so, I started to mark them. If I used the bank across the street to get the halves would it make a difference? I wonder if they use the same carrier for money. If they use the same carrier (Loomis) wouldn't it be the same coins most of the time?

Don't the 40%'ers have a clad core? The outside is 90% silver, but the inside is clad. Thus they are only 40% silver. If the edge is totally wore down, then they look like other clad. LeJune has had a bunch of those from Casino slot machine use.

Thats the thing these 68's are not edge worn. All my other 40%ers are either silver edged or silver & black or dirty edged. Edge searching would not find them. HH Mark

Yeah, I never just edge hunt. I've found to many 40%'ers that I wouldn't have without date checking. Plus, I check for errors as well. Found 2 1983 P without the "FG" yesterday.

Nice start W! Welcome aboard also. Glad you joined in. Keep us posted on your future searchs

Keep an eye out for your marked coins because you will more than likely see them again. The more volume you do the quicker you will see them.

Good luck W........thanks for the pictures.

Yes, the coin is clad and the inside is copper but not pure copper like other clad coins. It is mixed with a percentage of silver. That is why you get a different silver look on the edge. I have only had a couple of 40% halves that had a pure copper look on the edge. Once the coin starts to tarnish they are easy to spot.

Thanks for the welcome :) I really enjoy this CRH! Here's my next hunt ;D I called 10 banks in my area and half of them told me they didn't have any. Of the other 5 one has $300, one $20, one $40, one $810, and the last one was a little weird. The person who answered the phone insisted I tell them an amount I wanted. So I told them $500. They put me on hold and came back about 2 mins later and told me yes they have them. I said "What if I told you I wanted $1,000?" The person said "We don't disclose how many halves we have so our reserve doesn't dwindle." Anyone make anything of what the person said? I thought all banks like to get rid of halves? This was a regular bank in a smallish town. Weird.

You meet all kinds of people in this life. Tellers are people too (although there have been a few...but thats another story) and I think they all try to make up their own rules.

I have seen different rules for depositing in the same bank branch. ???
When I question a rule the teller will usually say they will make an exception to the rule just for me, this one time.
