Scott,

I'm the first in my family, not only to attend college, but to get not one degree, but two...With the exception of an older cousin who went to West Point, and just retired a Brig. Gen., we were the first in the generation.....now it's commonplace....You'll do just fine, and make everyone proud. Just keep on doing what you do, and you will always succeed. Don't stress the small picture's, reach for the stars!

And my Friends....

Best,

Here's the best picture that I have of "Me and Carol...."

currency.jpg

I wrote several songs while we were together, but lost them all to her ex-boyfriend.

There's another story from "Uncle Scott."

Sheesh, mention a topic, I've been there, done that, and, maybe still got the T-Shirt....

I'm still debating whether it's "cool" that I'm old, or, "Ah, CRAP!"

My Mom once told me, "Every grey hair that you find
should remind you of an instance that caused that grey hair."

I'm still tryin' to analyze my Mom's Wisdom and philosophy 50 years later.....

"Mongo brain hurt......"

Obscure?

Ya know, Uncle Scott's always good for a story or three.....8-)

Perhaps the stories of his youth helps to keep him young, even today?

I noticed this in the local paper online this morning and gave them a call this afternoon offering to help with repairs as I have worked on many different pieces of hospital equipment when I was maintenance at the Kansas University Medical Center in KC and other medical related maintenance jobs.

Disability center offers free cleaning of medical equipment

I spoke with the receptionist and she transferred me to another person who wasn't in and I left a voice message.

I keep putting "feelers" out, looking to volunteer and I'm waiting on replies from several.....

They'll probably all call at once!

I'm just going to have to be patient and keep looking for opportunities.

Best,

Scott

Got a call back this afternoon.

I briefly described my skills and experience.
She really perked up when I mentioned volunteering
on Tuesdays and Thursdays after classes this semester.
She must have thought I was asking for a job....

She asked me to send her an email stating my experience and skills and she would take it before some
committee for approval.

I've got the weekend to work on the email.

Keeping my fingers crossed!

Best,

Scott

Guess I don't need all weekend....

Here's what I just sent:

Greetings!

My name is Scott Xxxxxx and I'm currently a student at the University of North Georgia
pursuing a B.S. in Psychology.

Currently, I'm a member of the National Honors Society and am
involved with attending Honors courses for this Fall Semester.

A major part of being in the Honors Program at UNG, is the student's desire to volunteer.

(an excerpt from here....)
http://ung.edu/honors-program/
Community Service

Part of being an Honors student is learning to be a responsible, community conscious adult. One way the Honors Program encourages its members to develop is by getting them involved in community service. As part of their community service activities, Honors students tutor local public school students, host blood drives (in conjunction with LifeSouth), make frequent visits to the local animal shelter, sponsor a Relay For Life team, help the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity, and assist with academic and spelling competitions held on campus.

I happened to see a news item in the online version of "The Gainesville Times"

http://www.gainesvilletimes.com/section/6/article/86528/

for your organization and thought that I may offer my services as a volunteer,
to help repair medical equipment.

The following information has been gleaned as relevant,
in my offer of volunteering, from my most recent resume, which is outdated by
at least 5 years, except for Education:

WORK EXPERIENCE:

N.E. Ga. Med. Center, Gainesville, GA

Construction Apprentice II

Performed most aspects of skilled labor including cement work, metal stud framing, drywall hanging, use of power and hand tools.

Manor Healthcare, Wichita, KS
Maintenance Director
Involved with repairs and preventive maintenance of 119 bed long-term care facility. Tasks included: plumbing, carpentry, electrical and electronic repairs, repair to dietary, laundry and environmental services equipment, maintain and repair ice machines, roof-top HVAC, “thru the wall” HVAC repairs, upkeep of emergency generator, and contracting outside labor. Was on call 24 hrs. Administrative duties included: accountability of five monthly budgets, co-chair of safety committee, team captain of “Quality Improvement Program”, completion of a management development course, coordinate in-service training programs and new employee orientation presentations. Was also responsible for compliance with local, state and federal regulations and inspections to include MSDS documentation.

Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, KS
General Maintenance. & Repair Tech. I
Job duties included: plumbing, electrical, repair of hospital equipment, response to "code reds" (fire), repairs to elevators, HVAC repairs, pneumatic tube system, tele-lift system, and “trans-vac” system repairs. Occasionally filled in as supervisor.

United States Army, West Germany
Military Police
Confidential assignment. 3/71st Air Defense Artillery. Honorable discharge.

EDUCATION:
University of North Georgia, Gainesville, GA
University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS
United States Army Military Police School. Diploma.
Lawrence High School. Lawrence, KS Diploma.

If we can come to an agreement on what days and times that I'm available,
for scheduling benefits, I will be available this semester on Tuesdays and Thursdays,
after my classes, after 1 pm.
Saturdays are an additional option.

Additional information about me is that I'm 54 years old, a United States Army Veteran,
a "non-traditional" college student and my passion is to help whomever, wherever, whenever and however I can.

My Best Wishes,

Scott Xxxxxx

PS.

The position at Manor Health care doesn't reflect my minor repairs on wheelchairs, etc.
because most were "covered" by Medicare and I wasn't allowed to perform maintenance on these items.

However, every day, while taking care of the daily "maintenance requests,"
I was met by residents in the hallway, most with a whole written list!
"Here comes Scott!"

All of the residents were on a "First name basis" with me.

Now I can spend the weekend in leisure, reading the first book for philosophy and mega yardwork.....
Yeah, a fun weekend.

(maybe I'll be able to hit a "tot-lot" that I scoped on yesterday......)

Best,

Scott

PS. The "Manor" job was the most satisfactory to my soul.....

I would take a portable 78 rpm record player in on Saturdays, with a goodly amount of discs by Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller and some even older choices.

Have you ever seen old people in wheelchairs fight the pain and BOOGIE in their wheelchairs?

I have....
