The weather has not been kind to me lately and with family obligations and snow i have only been out a few times in the past 2 weeks. Yesterday I got rained on most of the day and today it was windy with snow showers. I have been doing my detecting on campus because this place is a coin bank. 11-14 130 coins/$8.95, 11-20 121 coins/$8.52, 11-26 145 coins/$10.08, today only a 3 hour hunt with 59 coins/$4.14. Nothing old but lots of clad and occasionally some gold and silver jewelry.

Today I found an old Croats bell. It has been mashed and part of it is missing. It is marked with a W but the second half of the maker mark is gone so I will not be able to pin down the maker, there are 5 that start with a W. It makes me think that the hand made lead die I found could be older than I originally thought. The campus opened in 1961 so the older stuff was left from whatever was here before the college opened. The makers mark makes it a cool find, too bad it is in bad shape.

RING UPDATE:

I have the name and address of the owner of the second class ring I found on campus. The school secretary was great about finding the name and I had that right away. It’s a lady’s ring so searching the name got me no where. It turns out a friend of mine’s wife graduated from the school in the same year and she consulted with some friends and got me the address, about 150 miles away. No phone number though so I mailed her a letter today to verify her ownership and with some luck I will be able to make a return before Christmas. Keep your fingers crossed and I will keep you posted.

Still no luck on the first class ring from campus, but again the secretary has been a big help and is trying to locate the owner (initials are there, but the class year has worn off).

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. Thanks for looking and may your coil lead you to good things.:icon_thumleft:

Thanks for the bell reference Terry Soloman. If it is a US made bell it is a Barton bell made prior to 1860 if it was made in England there are 5 or 6 possibilities and without the second half I will never know. It is safe to say it is at least 150 years old no matter where it was made.

Keep swingin.
