I followed up a permission request this past Friday, drove out with my GF and was told by the farmer to have at it. Very pretty property, I gridded off a few spots of it and dug my usual trash and got lucky with these two coins so far. I also pulled three wheats, 1946, 1944, 1942.

The farmer and his wife told me the house was built in 1915 and they are wonderful people. I ran to the door to show them the Cuban coin and Merc and they were laughing with my excitement about how you just never know what your going to find. If anyone knows anything else about the Cuban forty, please let me know. So far I found out there were only 166,000 minted, it is 10 grams of .900 silver, I thought at first two things when I pulled it out of the dirt. One, it was a half then I thought I had a colonial silver. This all took place in a split second, but was very exciting.
Enjoy the pix! HH

Really nice Merc... excellent condition. Once again you have found some really cool coins. Jealous, jealous jealous...

Tom, I asked 8 different houses before I got a maybe here, I had to ride all the way back Friday just on a gut feeling to get permission. I was there from 9 till 1:30 and dug much trash. All I'm saying is nothing comes easy, I figured this place would have something in it, the places I really want to hunt have all been saying no (1700's houses) I'll just keep on knocking and brush up on my sales pitch. I'll be back there in the morning.
Thanks for your comments, keep digging buddy, you look like your on the right track.

Great condition merc, and that 40 centavos is really cool! congrats on some killer finds and HH!

Both really nice coins but the Cuarenta centavos really is cool to me..

I'm glad you like it, I have found some really cool non-USA coins in the past, but this one is big silver, very special and exciting for me too. I'm in the process of cleaning it, I'm hoping I can get that black tarnish off.

I made a salt vinegar paste that cleaned my silver up nice.
My best non US silver was a 1937 20 centavos from Mexico (small silver). Makes since, I'm only about 14 miles from the border.

Thanks guys, I'm putting on my digging clothes and headed back there now.

ZDD

Thanks guys, the farmer liked the Cuban coin too, he said he was glad I found it and told me to enjoy it and find some more. No luck today, just garbage and trash.

Very nice cuban coin. I personally like the dug tarnish look because it makes dug silver coins kind of unique from all the others like it and every tarnish is a bit different. I always like finding silver coins regardless but I always hope they aren't worn to bad when I pull them out of the ground! :)

Got yourself some nice silver there..congrats.

Cleaned up nicely !!

Thanks again

Very nice and unique coin. We actually bought Cuban silver for prizes at our club hunt last fall and I remember thinking how neat they looked with the star.

Good luck finding more neat stuff at this house!
