Cool finds...Do people ever tell you not to hunt the curbs? I have been asked/told to leave more than once. What is your secret?

Cool finds...Do people ever tell you not to hunt the curbs? I have been asked/told to leave more than once. What is your secret?

I am no expert on curb strips but I try to pick old ones where no one will care I. E. run down areas with rental properties. The one I hunted tonite is actually an old highway median strip with mostly industrial neighbors. If the curb areas are mowed and well kept I avoid them.

One problem with this method is you ping on a lot of trash targets. To cut down on crummy targets I try to dig only good signals, I have found that high clear and faint tones are the best to dig unless you get a zinger right on top. The high faint tones are quite often deeper than the trash and tend to be better finds. I'm sure that I am misssing things with this technique but you can always hunt the same area again. Many times I find find good targets on a susequent hunt where I already 'tected.

Another problem is noise from traffic, so you have to be very patient and try to time hunts for when there is not much noise or go real slow when there are lots of vehicles going by.

Thanks for the reply, and good luck.

Hi Cambria. I've been looking at trying curb detecting for awhile now. I have a 4" snipe coil, used it the other day with my F2 and was getting 5" to 6" depth with it. Of course it rained the last week and the temp is cooler here in Ohio. Found a few old spots where there were houses, stone walls and steps are still there. Might have to try the curb. HH and hope you find something great.

I like that; curb strip mining. I have
hunted many a strip. My best day for silver mercs was on a strip in a small town. Now, I don't let others bother or intimidate me. These same people that want to run you off will talk to someone walking by while there dog takes a crap in the same strip you want to detect in. The city has right of way to the edge of the sidewalk. That strip between the curb and sidewalk is open game!! Go get'm boys!

I got a nice diggable high tone (don't have any digitals on my machine, I dig everything by ear) and when I went to dig it out my shovel hit something big. At 1st I thought it was a rock but experience (and broken stuff) has taught me to go easy when I dig. Easy excavating with a trowel produced the bottle about 3-IN down and a Memorial underneath it. Sorry no real story here like the coin being inside the bottle, probably would fit anyway.

Thanks for the inquiry.

Cool! I love bottles, I collect Soda Antiques.. always wanted to dig one. Crazy that bottle was thrown 40 years ago, and no one picked it up and let is soak down into the surface.
