They are doing a large build where I work, so needed a archaeological tick-in the box before continuing.

They will be doing 29 trenches in 10 days.

Part of there brief was a metal detecting element. So they got me for free.

I did 1 hour at lunch & 1 hour after work. Covered the spoil of 4 trenches.

I found a circa 1870s Lead Flour Sack Lead Seal
Part of a late Medieval Crotal Bell
Post WWII Military Brass Rain Mac Buckle

Picked up a piece of glazed pottery (circa 17th C) from the spoil (Not pictured). Asked them if they wanted it. He said he better keep it as it might be all they find :D

I will give daily updates.

All items will be handed in & not return, not sure who's learning more, me or them

That's a great opportunity Simon, I wish I could dig trenches like that here..HAHAH
Hope you "Don't" find a pot of gold, at least that they know of anyway....

Keep safe...

Keith

Nice digs, I do private Archaeological digs for people that own the property.
50/50 split going in up front. Everything is recorded, and historical
information is retained by the land owner.
You have some nice finds there, a very good day.

Sounds like you got a cool job! Hope they are paying you for your time but heck most of us would do it for free! HH Tom

Make sure to take pictures.......at least they can't take them away........great opportunity you have...

looking forward to all the updates..............HHS........

I guess you mean the JCB :icon_scratch:, if so its typical for UK digs. Remember 29 trenches, 6 people, 10 days.

A good opportunity to show what you can do, it would help if they could
flatten out the spoil heaps.
Wish I was there.
Anyway good luck.
Dave.

I asked them to flatten them out but they wouldn't. :P

Wow, next thing we know we'll see you on Time Team! :)

I know plenty of people who have been on Time Team but I'm camera shy.
