Well after Dads near blank yesterday I rang up another farmer to see what land was available - none So decided to get it one last go. My plan (Dad is visiting family) was to fill in the gap which we left a few days ago so we could cover the better area.
First run, second dig was a scrappy roman, third dig is a nice lead token. So of to a steady start. Had a few more bits in the next few runs & then quite for about 5 runs. I was beginning to wonder if I would get much more as I was only 2 runs from meeting up with the covered area. So at the bottom of the 2nd to last run out popped half a Saxon Gold Chip Carved belt mount/sniffener - cica 7th-8th century The ONLY piece of Saxon item found this whole year. The only 2 similar pieces I found in previous years was in this same field (see bottom picture). I was hoping it was a part of the broken piece I already had, but instead I have 2 broken pieces to look for in the future.
Not often I get Roman,Saxon,Medieval, Post Medieval all in 5.5 hours, just needed the Celtic to get the set
Other finds:
Plain Dandy Button
Livery button - Bird over H
Very please to see when cleaned a small globe button with 11th LD - 11th Light Dragons - Cavalry Regiment from 1783-1840
Silver sixpence worn smooth most likely William III 1690s - nice merchants countermarks on it
Mediaval Horse pendant - new type
One of the best Lead tokens I have had in awhile
Pile of gash buttons.
Now this is what its all about 8)
