This is why I took most of my holiday this week. Who needs sun,sea & sand (apart from beach detectorist ;)) Hit the right field at the right time :)

I have just got back from this mornings hunt & had to share, the rest I will post after the PM hunt.

Its my earliest, best, most valuable Gold coin so far & doubles my Dad's Qrter Noble ;D

I AM PUMPED - I thought this year may produce a gold but was beginning to lose faith.

UPDATED

(to keep everyone happy)
Dutch coin of EDWARD III period
Cica 1351 - 1352
HALF NOBLE

3.32gms of 21-22 Cwt Gold.
These are so rare, I don't have the proper books to id (nor did the experts I spoke to). I am not worried about a full Dutch Provence id. Dutch is good enough :) However if you know, I will be happy to hear?
Valued at auction ยฃ300-400 + but depends on full ID

It was badly bent by the plough & I carefully unfolded it (I don't recommend this). Its chewed up abit but at least its all there!

FIND OF A LIFETIME.

Crusader you sure it wasn't bent as a love token. I understand that they did this back then. The lover bent the coin and gave it to his loved one as a sign of his love.
Grubby

40 pennies would be the most expensive love token I have heard of. Only kings at that time could afford such Love. It has several marks from the plough (and when I say plough, more likely the rotavator thingy that flattens down the roughly ploughed soil)

The coin you trying to flatten is thicker than mine, & I would probaly leave it as is.

That is awesome! Looks like you did a good job straitening and cleaning it. I've found hammered coins but no gold ones yet. Well done!

Crusader, I never cease to be amazed at your finds and your knowledge of what you dig! You are really making me hope for some great finds in Yorkshire in November.

Thanks for all your kind comments.

I thought this was a banner item for sure?

10 time rarer than my Galba Denarius. Maybe they should switch them?

congrats Crusader!! Most definately a banner find. I'm sure you saw the thread that asked why it had not yet been posted on the banner. It has disapeared for some reason.

someone else had started a thread asking why it was not on the banner. I tried finding it yesterday and Tuesday to no avail. I replied to it with something along the lines of:

give it time, the mods may be out looking for their own gold and also said that maybe they were waiting for Kirkpa to post something better. Of course that was said in jest.

Well done,
You've found the holy grail of MDers.
I understand about straightening out bent coins, I've done it my self, just couldn't
resist it.

Big congrats on making the banner again !! and I have a 1767 1 Heller(luckily not silver though) that I tried to straighten out and of course it cracked in half. :'( I like Dave just could not look at it folded any longer .LOL
