We have been having some great weather so I decided to spend some time in the creek. I have only been in this creek a few times and have never had any luck and was thinking how cool it would be to find something really old! After finding two little tools I decided to take a closer look at the rock bar and also in the water and that's when I spotted this awesome Dalton!!

Is it possible to be able to tell if the other two pieces are from the same period as the Dalton? They were found within feet of each other. The flatter piece almost looks like it has some fluting. Any idea what the other two pieces are? Is the one closer to the quarter a preform or do you think it's a finished tool?

Thanks for looking!

Wow! My piece really is similar to the other performs.. It actually looks very similar to the one in the middle on the bottom row. I'm not too far from the referenced site either so it looks Ike there is a chance that this could be a fluted preform. Cool!

I don't think you could say one way or the other if the other pieces are related.

Fine looking Dalton.

I agree with Joshua. Once these prehistoric artifacts enter a stream they mix with whatever is already present in that streambed which could be artifacts ranging from Clovis age through the Late Prehistoric cultures.

You are correct in your "awesome" description! Congrats! If I am remembering right, you have posted other fantastic creek finds in the last couple of years.

I've definitely had my fair share of luck in the creeks over the last few years! :)

Hi everyone, I posted this a few years back and asked the group about the fluted piece. There was speculation about it being fluted Or maybe from the dalton period but I finally had it analyzed by an archaeologist at cahokia mounds a few months back and he is confident that it is a broken Clovis preform. He said that based on the way it is broken he can tell that the break occurred when they attempted to make the flute. What are the chances of finding a dalton and a Clovis on the same rock bar?! I was pretty excited when I learned this so though it would be worth bringing this back up.
