Deputy's Badge From An Old Farmstead ... Button Update!

Man it's been wet around here this week. We had 10+ inches of rain in two days and water is everywhere. By Sunday I had to get out for a while but water is standing almost everywhere. I started driving to a couple of old hunting spots and found a farm field where the soy beans had been recently harvested and I didn't see water standing. I've hunted this place several times over the last couple of years and didn't really expect much (this farmer has gone to no till so the field hasn't been plowed in 3 years). I spent about 2 hours in the bean stubble and mud with the folllowing finds: 1907 IH, 2 very rough wheats (1934, 19??), a nice Blue Bell button, a marble, and the find of the day ~ a cool deputy badge! I was happy to be out for a hunt and happy with my finds as well. Thanks for Looking ~ Jimmy

Hey Dave ... thanks for the reply ... I was surprised at how heavy the badge was. I thought about trying to bend it back in shape a little but when I tried to it wouldn't budge and I didn't want to force it.

Cool stuff. Boil the badge in water for a while and you should be able to bend it out without a problem. Bent it just a bit at a time and put back in the water for a bit then bend it somemore. You can feel when it is going to need to go back into the water. If you decide to try it just take your time and be careful I've straightened a ton of brass relics that way.

Re: Deputy's Badge From An Old Farmstead ... Update on button

I finally got time to do a little research on the Blue Bell button and found out the following ... The CC Hudson Overall company started in 1904 and as they grew they built a new home office and changed the company name to the Blue Bell Overalls Company in 1919 and later bought the Casey Jones Blue Jean Company in 1943. Blue Bell took a product line from Casey Jones known as Wrangler Jeans in 1947 and started developing this to the European market in 1962. Wrangler Western Wear caught on in the US in the 70s and the company became branded as the Wrangler Jeans Company. It's not an old button by most standards but I thought it had an interesting history. Thanks for looking ~ Jimmy
