dimes and pennies 07-16-2007

I got to work early this morning, so I left early and that allowed me to buy the bag of dimes ($1000) and the 2 bags of pennies ($50 each) off the coin machine of one of my typical Tuesday stops on the way home. Since I will be cashing it in tomorrow, i figured I would just do a quick edge search.

The bag of dime was pretty good.

9 pre-1965 Roosevelt (1948-D(2), 1959-D, 1961-D, 1962-D, 1964-D(4))
12 Canadian (1968 Silver, 1976, 1979(2), 1980, 1987, 1989, 1992, 1995, 2001-P, 2003-P, 2004-P)
5 Foreign (Cayman Islands, 1 Cent (2005), Cayman Islands, 5 Cents (2005), Great Britain, 5 Pence (1996, 1998), Mexico, 10 Centavos (2004))
5 Quarters, 12 pennies, 1 washer

RCM=Royal Canadian Mint

Starting on some 2006 coins as I understand it the Canadian mint started essentially branding their coins with the RCM logo. I am not sure if there is a non-RCM version of the 2007 coins or not, but I have found 2006 pennies with no RCM mark and 2006 pennies with a RCM mark. It is located where the "P" was for some recent Canadian coins. The first time I saw one I did a double take, so I looked it up. I just can't remember all the details offhand.

If anyone is interested in collecting Canadian coins, I highly recommend this book

it tells you everything you'd want to know about the different varieties. Without it I was unable to find much about Canadian coins online, especially mintages and relative rareness.
