The surf PI is a nice kit. I populated the board and still haven't got around to doing the coil. Lot of DIY stuff out there for someone that has some electronics background. The Baracudda I haven't started on yet as am doing the Mini-pluse plus. Suggestion is to take your time and check every component before installing. Also build by sections. Get the voltage regulators up and running etc. before stuffing the other components for the oscillator, Rec preamp etc. What ya gotta watch out for is the changes that are made over the years to the PCBs and schematics so you have a good match up scheme to PCB.

I have a few of the Silverdog kits. IDX pro, TGSL, Surf PI and the Barracuda.

The TGSL works pretty well, I have a few spools of magnet wire and several coil housings so I can make coils for them.

It gives me something to do during the winter months.

I just checked and he has a unit called a Minipulse. I will have to get that one too.
