I worked for a moving company back before college and we moved an older couple that won 12 million in the state lotto. The guy said he had wished he never would have won it since he was retired and well off to begin with. He said he had to move into a gated community to keep people from coming to his house at all hours. He also said that it didn't matter if you got a new unlisted phone number, people still got it and you hear every single sad luck story and every "the next greatest invention" too.

I am asking this question because I just found out that a friend hit the lotto for 8 million. He is a year older then me and he quit his job an moved his family from Michigan to Brownsville, Texas a couple of years ago. I just heard about it because, believe it or not I moved from Michigan to Savannah, Georgia over a year ago and I stopped into a store one Saturday morning and walked into a friend from Michigan. He never knew I moved to Savannah, (actually Rincon, GA to be exact) and we were catching up on the past. I had heard that Tim retired but that was it.

So, how about it, know anyone that that won the lotto?

My first cousin that lived in Illinois hit the lottery and cleared 6.2 million after taxes. Her boyfriend proposed the next day, lol...She got cars left in her driveway with the keys in them and a note on the windshield saying drive it and buy it if you like it and stuff like that. It seemed like every charity in the nation tried to contact her and plenty of long lost friends called her and asked for money. She finally moved to Indianapolis to get away from all of it. I didn't expect anything from her and that's exactly what I got too...Her and her new husband came through Tennessee a couple of years later and stopped at my parents house for about 30 minutes on the way to Florida. It would have been nice if her conscience had gotten the best of her and for her to repay my parents all that she stole from them in the past. That didn't happen either.

Knew a guy at work that won 125,000 payed off his house and got a new used truck and it was gone.

Nope! A member of our gold chapter did win 200,000 abou 3 wks ago.He cleared about 146,000 after taxes.Best I ever did was 5000 3-4 yrs ago.

My hubby has won the 5 of 6 numbers for the Va Lotto twice since 1995 (one was for 700 something and the last one for 800 something, don't remember the exact amounts).

My brother won 5,000 about two years ago...it was gone in a month! (Florida)

And recently, my hubby's brother's ex wife...well her best friend's mother (Virginia) just won (I think it was in June) the WIN FOR LIFE! She gets 1,000 a week!!! That's the one I would like to win....

But...I've learned, you have to play if you want to win! LOL...someday I'll play the lotto!

But no...never knew of anyone that won the BIG ONE!!!

yeah know of someone who won $12 million. They lived in a trailor park and just left the trailor and everything else behind that wasn't of extreme value to them (lost of the stuff). They disappeared - poof! Gone!

I kinda liked their style but have seen the documentary on winners who had their lives ruined by winning big lottos. Some people are smart. Some are just not so smart. Unless you have a really good plan or really good advice from experts - you're not going to hang on to any amount of $$$ very long...IMO

Don't know anyone, that I am aware of...

Those shows about the winners are intersting... some folks really screw it up, and all but a few regret it (to a degree) I guess. A few folks really make it work.

I day-dream about what I would do if I won and buy tickets on a rare occassion.

I think it's cool when folks who really NEED the money win, but don't really care when folks who do NOT need it win. Who am I to say?

lotto odds suck -- save your money --- and for goodness sake if you must "play" at a casino --- play dice at casino's -- better odds small house "take" % - take $500 or $1000--if you double up stop!!!! --- take the money & leave the casino --- if you can not "walk away a winner" (ahead) due to greed or stupidity (there are lots of folks who can not by the way)--- then save your self a trip to the casino and just "flush it " down the toliet at home. --- being albe to "walk" away with the money when your ahead and stop after the "set loss" amount that you can "live" with say $500 or $1000 bucks is "played out" and not keep digging a hole when your not hot ----is the differace between a "gambler" and an "madman with a illness" --- Ivan

I recently checked $126.00 worth of stashed away tickets spanning a 10 month period.
one ticket was a winner,I can retire now with my $3.00.I can use 3 losing tickets to make
it tax free,or be greedy and not claim it on my taxes.
I know it is a ripoff and rarely bother with scratchoffs(I do better with m/ding).
I do not know anyone that won big,but I play the lotto at about $2.00 a week hoping the
state will let me win someday(probably never).my half brother was (may still be?) really
sick with scratchoffs and boasted about winning $700.00.I said think about the money
you put in to get that, his grin disapeared and hung his head down.one day feeling lucky
I bought a $10.00 scratchoff and won $150.00 ($140.00 - the 10),I kept the money and ran.

does anyone know about any benefits in forming a llc or incorporating yourself before
turning in a big winner?if I did win(fat chance),what I would do is put the money in different
interest earning cd's,and savings accounts and live off the interest.no mansions or maids,
I do not want to make the utilities rich and I can cook for myself.

I just heard the mega millions (mega fleece) is up to $170,000,000.00 gotta go.

I know a local rancher that won the lottery for a little over a million. He is probably one of the most grouchy human being on Earth. He was rich before he won the money. He has become a recluse since he won.Now I don't see him and have to be subject to his brand of "the nasties".

He burned it up in 3 months on booze & women.
money well spent 8)

Nope...I would assume it would be awkward at best if I did know someone
that "hit it big". I would be happy for them sure, but I would be more unhappy
with me not winning, LOL....

The powerball is getting up there now, that is what me and my pals at work play
in our newly formed lottery pool...with alot of luck, we will win...something at least.

A friend of mine won $20 million several years back. Invested and lost much of it in stocks during the dot com boom and bust. He's still ok though. Nice guy, keeps quiet about the source of his $$$. Lives in a remote area so little problem with people finding him.

Now if I had won that money by now I would have my island fortress built along with my army of scantily clad amazon women. Might even have my anti-gravity drive spaceship built... who knows?

My brother hit $52,000 and a coworker hit 36,000 on a scratch off loto ticket.

For most people who win the big money, their lives get turned upside down. For what I read and hear, it usually doesn't turn out well. If you want the truth about the odds, Statistically (from historical data) you have a better chance of finding a winning lottery ticket than buying one.
