does the backward letters mean anything?

Yeah, u got more than i did.. I was sure it was marker but because the letter 'N's are turned arouns wasnt sure if that meant something special or just they way people wrote at that time..

many people in the early 18 Hundreds never had Schooling & it was probably her Father who carved it.

I agree that spelling was either very eloquent or very poor. Thank you for sharing this reminder. I am sure she would have smiled on this. I have seen many children graves of that period with just a single small stone where they dies during child birth.

It means they were IGNORANT (not putting them down, just stating a fact). Backwards Ns are the most common errors you see from the 1700-1800's in America, like in scrimshaw, encised initials in musket stocks, etc. Very common. Cool find!
