I think Zany saw the pic of the Royal Poodle in Charles A Kenworthys book, Spanish Trail Signs and Monuments, where he shows a Royal Poodle sitting on his butt with front legs straight, a classic pose
and got confused, easy to do , but old dog is correct Baloney is the dismissive techinal term that is aptly
used in this context...

I have a picture of an ungroomed poodle laying down to mark the start of a foot trail that goes around the top of a small canyon.
the stone facing the poodle is a part of the monument that becomes evident when the monument is approached.the two parts together become an actual topographic layout of the canyon.
But no not all dogs are sitting waiting. most all are pointing to an easy way through a pretty tough area.
