Hi NJ

 read about a dog who found a 2-3 oz. nugget in Jackson , Cal. about 8 years ago ,saw it under a bush that he frequents , dog scooped it up and the owner grabbed it ,,

seriously doubt if the dog could smell the gold nugget , my dog helps digs field finds , that's about it , doesn't care what is in the hole , snacks only.

Hope you can get more about this , dogs can do some amazing things , but finding buried treasure would be a stretch.

I agree but dogs like blood hounds are better then most stronger nose so maybe it's possible for certain species
