Good morning, all and Happy turkey day!
i have been a member of this site for years and this is my first post. While I have found many nice coins, this is probably my best so I had to share with you gals and guys. Ill make the story short and sweet. My buddy and I finally got permission to hunt about 400 acres of farm. House was built in the early 1700`s and a Civil war camp (confederate) is in one of the fields we cant hunt yet (still soybeans). So there we are, 1st day and found the usual mini-balls and a few civ. buttons when I hit a strange, broken sound (explorer II) in the range of a button. I dug a shotgun shell about 12" down. So after I covered the hole, I swung over the hole again and there it was. In the same hole. 1801 draped bust. I have much older coins (even spanish) but this is by far my best coin. Anyone have any input on the grade?
I always look at everyones postings here and enjoy every story. Hope have enjoyed mine. Ill be sending it off soon....

Super nice coin. The pix is kind of fuzzy but I would make it somewhere around an f12 with a book value of around $700.00. but the right collector would pay several percent more to fill a hole in his collection.

Have a nice thanksgiving day.

A better photo, using the "macro" setting on your camera, and this one might get placed on the finds banner up top.

The 2010 redbook has vf defined as only left side of Drapery indistinct which I think defines this coin.. redbook 2010 has book value of 2000.00 but this book is 6 months out of date..the most recent (November 2009) Coinsvalue mag I have has this coin booked at 6000.00
