I had to share this experience and wonder if anybody else has encountered the same situation. So I went to dump $500 in halves at a branch I have never been to before. The teller is more than happy to take them, but says she has to count them all because they have had some bad experiences in the past with people intentionally shorting the rolls or placing pennies in dime rolls. This is the first time anybody has literally cracked open every roll and counted each coin, even though I have dumped at other branches of the same bank. I swear it took 20 minutes to go through them all. Now to me, it would have been much quicker to empty each roll into stacks placed side by side so she could see the stacks at the same height (kinda like the casino dealers do), but NO, she had to look at each and every coin. Needless to say, I will not be going back to that branch even though I got the time to wait.

Haha, don't you hate that? There's a bank that I dump at near Silvertowne does the same thing. One time I dump $1500 and it took 20 mins for them to count all the halves!!

She wasn't counting them, she was searching them.

Deliberate stall tactic. She inconvenienced you under the guise of being thorough. You mentioned that you won't be going back, hence her tactic worked. Less dumps for her to handle.

I have a bank I pick up from that does that. They have to "verify" each and every roll. It's never been a problem for me since I've never dumped at this branch, but it's been beneficial when I pick up CWR because I know the rolls wont be short. This branch doesn't search the rolls because I got $200 of old CWR one time that had quite a few silvers, and not a single clad dime newer than 1997.

Could have been counting and searching them. Bank here had some guy short dime rolls with mostly pennies. Teller lost her job over it.

99 bottles of beer on the wall. 99 bottles of beer. You take one down, pass it around. 98 bottles of beer on the wall.....

Yeah, the thought crossed my mind that she was searching them, but why not do that on your own time? This particular bank is never that busy so I'm sure they have plenty of time to kill throughout the day. I think they just got totally screwed in the past by some people and now they are being overly cautious. I suppose you come up short a couple dimes it's no big deal, but come up short on halves and they add up fast.

Seems to me her method of getting you to never come back with rolled coins worked. LOL. Honestly If I did not want to count coin as a teller I would do the same.

I agree with DD. If you give up now then she wins.

I would just go here when you have some spare time and dump a few boxes on her. I'd bring her 2 boxes of halves and 2 boxes of dimes. Have fun counting! ;D

One bank of mine counts the coins , even when i dump so i say i will come back later for the receipt just so just deposit them. I also throw a dig asking if they count the other coins too as i will be bringing in many rolls to be counted and deposited.

I say dump $2,000 worth of DIMES on her, they can be annoying to count after some time :evil5:

While I agree tellers should be protective of what they take in, there are simpler and faster ways of ensuring the count is correct. If you have an account there she should give you the cash, count it later and adjust your account if your incorrect. It is inconsiderate to you the customer and to all the less obnoxious customers behind you.

Definitely a stall tactic to break you and shunt you elsewhere. Sounds like Sovereign bank to me.
