Real de Tayopa,

Back in the dark ages when I was in high school my senior year we had an English teacher, Mr. Smith. Well we were all seniors and full of ourselves...you know take no prisoners and Katie bar the door. The first day of class Mr. Smith made a point of pronouncing every student's name correctly. Some commented that was the first time their name had been said right the first time. Mr. Smith said it was something he took pride in and -- I don't remember how -- a reference was made by him to all the different names he knew in the service. One thing lead to another and someone asked if he had been in the service. Well yes, he was former Marine, started on Guadalcanal. The room took it in and from that day to the end of the year all we full of ourselves seniors said "yes Mr. Smith", "no Mr. Smith". It wasn't fear so much (although ...) it was respect! By the way he was one heck of a teacher. I've never forgotten him!
