I figured I would randomly walk the old fields behind the site I found my machin mills copper early this spring. Not thinking I would find anything just looking for where the activity was. Found a nice spot with some iron and started doing a sloppy grid and came out with some keepers. I think the eagle was part of a handle maybe to a knife or machete? First thought was to a cane but I believe it's too small for that. Very cool either way. Also grabbed a toasted copper with no detail at all and then an 1800 LC with great detail. The rest was just randomly throughout my search plus a bunch of iron.
Thanks for looking.

Great finds as usual! The eagle looks to me like it could possibly be the handle to a cane--it's a great find in and of itself. Looks to be ca. early 1800s.

Awesome find - that eagle rocks hard !!!

Thanks! This was definitely one of my better recent finds.

Erik, this site is pretty old so I would guess the same age. I wanna say its pewter due to some flaking I usually see on buttons and was silver plated at one time.

Nice finds!

Very Kool Tom! Would like to ID the variety of the 1800 LC. Can you post closeups of obverse and reverse. There are 29 varieties.

I'm thinking cane handle, too! Size and shape are just right. Coin is a superb find, too! Way to go!

Hey Dawg, I love the few sites that are relatively free of modern junk.
