Can anyone tell from the pictures what age this eagle is and what it was used for--flagpole topper? The threaded shaft seems a little short and untapered to me for a flagpole topper, but I've been wrong before! Hope I am this time and it IS a topper! Civil War surely would be nice, too, but rather slim chance. Thanks for looking and if you sent along any information!

Looks like the flag pole topper we had in my elementary school.

Could be flag, could be lamp, could be clock, could be ........ Still neat. Doesn't look to be that old to me.

Yes, universal, also woodstoves and weathervanes
Check out banjo clocks ... the eagles varied, but the eagle on a ball was more common than any other use I could find.
