gwdigger, you might want to trade your 1714 for this 1715 he has....Or, if you would rather pay cash I am sure he will give you a dealer discount...
http://cgi.ebay.com/8-escudos-gold-1715-Jewelry-Mexico-/390217962261

Now, these two aren't fake and definitely warrant a very close inspection (must see!). I am going to compliment the seller on the fine quality.... :headbang:

My message to seller: These are very nice. Can you send any more detailed close-ups? Thanks

Where are the Ebay police (after I stop laughing)? Attempting to sell what he suggests is an authentic 1715 8 escudos MC mint that weighs 20 grams and is .999 fine; unbelievable. Of course the coin is suppose to weigh about 27 grams and is only .917 fine. Did I get that right?
Don.....

Stan... I see a lot of pit holes in the coin. Is this one way to identify a molded coin?

Yes Jeff. It was not a very smart coin type to try to fake. A true cob would have been a lot easier than a presentation piece (royal).

I'm avoiding calling the police for fear they will take down his pendant auction. Still waiting for more detailed pics....

Stan and others...
Here is a site that I found years ago, it was helpful with Chopmark identification and it was quite interesting with the various chops and their meanings...if may be of some use to help explain some of the other chopmarks. It has a section for Spanish cobs w/ various chops. Explore the site and enjoy it.

I want that cob just as bad Stan...wanna goes halves? lol

Hey Trez, great site! I don't think I have ever seen that one before - bookmarked it right away. Now we have to decipher the marks. I'll look forward to getting into that.

I still want to find out about that VOC mark. Don, where did you get that info on the "C"?
