Best of luck EE!!! Was really hoping it would be a "september to remember" like you thought it would be!!
October is when the 'holiday silver' starts to come out right?
Happy hunting :)

String and Sons is officially Skunk and Sons to me.

2 boxes, nothing to speak of. I guess maybe my local pick up still doesnt have a new pallet in yet.

The flat boxes you are getting, do they have a date and inspection number stamped on them?

I checked the 4 boxes I have, not a single date stamped on them. As for the two styles of flat boxes...

6 Boxes due tomorrow, unknown number of CRW's as well on Saturday.

I did find a source for copper though. Went by the coin shop to do my weekly pickup of junk silver ( 2 standing quarters and a roisie ) with my left over spare change and mentioned that I still had not found a single steel penny out of the $450 worth of pennies I have search to date. They mentioned that they had a bucket of copper pennies that customers bring in with their wheats that they sell to them. I picked up $12.30 worth of copper pennies for $12. :D

I have searched only about $4-$5 worth of it so far, pulled out 2 Zinc pennies mixed in but I did manage to pull out 2 clipped wheats 1944 and 1958. I know they are not worth much of anything since the coin shop didnt keep them but Ill hold them all the same, someone might find value in them during a future auction.

Yeah.. its been slow in the silver dept as of late...

Boxes are totally dry here, for the last three weeks. I have netted 2x90% and 2x40% out of 40 plus boxes. All my finds of late have been bags from coin counters or CWRs.

So.. October is nearly half way over.

Its been slow going with the CRH, not in volume but in finds, its pretty dry out there.

On 10-3 I got 2 Skunk and Sons boxes and they lived up to their names

On 10 - 5 I got 3 more Skunk and sons and again, all 3 were empty
On 10 - 5 I received 2 Brinks boxes which netted me a single 40%

On Friday, Bank 1 gave me 3 Brinks boxes

Box 1: 6/40%
Box 2: Skunked
Box 3: 1/40%

Bank 2 had a new delivery guy who stacked the halves on top of everything else. When he set his cart down, the stack of coin was felled like a might oak tree and out of my 3 boxes of halves I only got to take home 90 loose rolls which didnt explode upon impact.

Box 1 of 45 rolls : 1/40%
Box 2 of 45 rolls : 1/40%

Went to my dump bank to drop off my $900 in halves from bank 2 and as they are counting my coin, a old lady walks in with a large jar of coin to be counted. I help he with her jar as it was 'heavy' and the teller asks if I want to buy those as well, I say yes.

In total, between the ladies coin and the dimes that they had on hand, I picked up..

Nickels 18 Rolls: Skunked
Dimes 132 rolls : Skunked
Quarters 36 Rolls : Skunked

I did do another pick up at the local coin shop, grabbed another $15 worth of junk silver.

2 Standing Quarters and a Rosie.

So.. Octobers Totals are as follows.

October Totals

Found

10 - 40% (1.479)

Total found 1.479 oz for $5.00 or $5.41 an oz

Auction/Coin Shop

2 - Roosevelt Dime ( $4.86/0.1446 )
1 - Washington Quarters ( $6.06/0.3616 )
3 - Standing Quarters($18.18/0.3616)

Total purchased 0.8678 oz for $29.10 or $33.63 oz

October totals 2.3468 oz for $34.10 or $14.53 an oz

12.3581 oz away from end of October goal.

Also missed the round of layoffs at my work last Friday while I was out doing my CRH'ing.. not that I am worried. Only 3 people can do my job and only 2 can program the machine I work on and I am one of them.

This coming up week I have 7 boxes of halves due, 2 boxes of pennies and unknown number of CWR's. I will start doing my Saturday runs to other banks since I have Sat off and start picking up all the CRW's I can. I am currently planning out my routes for the slow season.

I hope you keep your job, it's a hard market out there! Good luck with those 7 boxes!

I like to call string and sons "string of skunks"

1) Maybe the silver is scared of us this month
2) Why would holiday season make it better for us to get some keepers

answer to 2:
people who arent silver/coin savy cash in their coin collections (or maybe a collection that has been given to them) for money to buy presents without knowing the collection's true value.

at least thats what I think happens.

Ok so this week was not too bad.

I did two boxes on Wednesday and both were a Brinks skunk.

On Friday I got 5 more boxes and some CWRS

Box 1: 8/40% - 2/90%
Box 2: 2/40%
Box 3: Skunk
Box 4: 2/40%
Box 5: Skunk, a second interesting skunk

One of the 40% Halves was a bicentennial in very good condition. Looked like it was just popped out of the case and lightly scratched from sorting and rolling, its my third.

I dont think I have mentioned this before but previous to this last Friday, I recieved a box once that had almost all 1977 and 1980 coins in brinks wrap. All the coins were sort of ashy in color, they were all hard packed into the rolls. I do mean, 1000 coins all 1977 and 1980 and nothing but. This last batch was pretty much the same thing with a few random rolls thrown in, all brinks. The Brinks rolls I can pop the top with a pocket knife and dump the coins out by hand, the 77/80 rolls I cant. Anyways, I am wondering if anyone has bumped into those before or not?

As for the CWR's.

Quarters 1: Skunked
Dimes 1: Sunked
Nickels 1: Skunked

I got no bags of dimes or nickels from my dump bank as they had none for me this week.

October Totals

Found

22 - 40% (3.2538)
2 - 90% Kennedy (0.7234)

Total found 3.9772 oz for $12.00 or $3.02 an oz

Auction/Coin Shop

2 - Roosevelt Dime ( $4.86/0.1446 )
1 - Washington Quarters ( $6.06/0.1808 )
3 - Standing Quarters($18.18/0.5424)

Total purchased 0.8678 oz for $29.10 or $33.63 oz

October totals 4.8450 oz for $41.10 or $8.48 an oz

No coin shop run this week, will do that next week. I was too busy.

Auction tomorrow to go to, doubt I will get anything but I will try if I can make the standard minimum of 20% profit I aim to make when buying from auctions.

9.8599 oz away from end of October goal. 8 boxes of halves left to go this month, its going to be epic if I can hit my goal with so few boxes. Might make a road trip next week and try my luck with that.
