Era of Buckle

I dug this today in an area with deep history. It differs from what I know of "CW" buckles in that it is constructed of flat and not round stock, and the taper of the prong seems unusual to me. Poking around, the closest thing in image I can find to this is on page 54 of Neumann's Collector's Encyclopedia of the American Revolution, where there's a pretty good match. This buckle measures 1.25" square. Can anyone tell me if these features suggest it may be earlier than mid-19th Century?

TIA!

Beats me? :dontknow: I have a lot of little buckles like that and no idea what they are.
I think maybe mostly horse and mule tack ?

Its unlikely to be as early as the 19th C, early 20th or later is where this common iron buckle ranges.
