Found this 1953 d wheat penny that has had the entire rim cut off all the way around it! Weird !
Wondering if anyone has ever seen such a thing or knows why this was done? Thanks , Chris

p.s. I have a quarter with the edging all worn off, from being trapped in a clothes dryer. The penny being softer would probably take less time to wear.

Weird! Lol-- almost looks cut but can't see any tool marks and the edge isn't smashed from being beaten by a spoon either lol but who knows!

in the late 60's we would grind penneys down to the size of dimes so we could use them in coke machines......

Back in the 60's we also cut the outer rim of a penny with tin snips and laid the penny on the sidewalk and rubbed it back and forth under are shoes to get it thinner. It took 3 cents to buy a bottle of coke at that time instead of 30 cents. I think we did this once just to see if it would work.
