During the last 7 hunts I have found silver on 6.
Today, I managed to knock one off my list for 2014. A few of us from my detecting club got together and we detected a well hit cornfield. After talking for about 20 minutes, I put the big 17" coil on my CTX because I knew that all the targets were deep and the stubble was upwards of a foot high. I was just randomly swinging and making my way to the other corner of the field which was 40 yards away and I received just a brief second of a "high tone". I dug 10 inches down and removed enough dirt to bury a basketball (the big coil is a real "B" to pinpoint sometimes). The signal was fading in and out and I almost quit. 8 inches down I found this 1891 dime. All told I detected about 2 acres the rest of the day and found nothing but iron and shards of aluminum.
This is only the second one I have dug and my second oldest silver. What makes it cool is that 90% of the places I get on only date back to the 30s' and 40s', so seated is not even in the cross hairs.
This past Saturday a me and a friend went to a park dated 1938. I found this really old wheat penny about 7 inches down. I think it is dated 1910, but it is literally burnt wheat toast. A few feet away I found this ring. I looked at it for 10 minutes and wasn't really sure that it was a ring and didn't know it was .925 until I got it home. I thought it was a strange pull tab at first. This makes silver ring number 5 for me this year.
Finally, Saturday afternoon I found this 1954 quarter standing on edge just an inch or two from the sidewalk. This makes silver quarter number 4 for me this year.
This has been the best 2 weeks for finding silver than what I've had all year. I just need to find more than "onesies" each hunt. Thanks for lookin.
