My excal 800 wont sound off on metal but if you turn threshold up it screams and every minute or so it will sound off for a quick second. I found someone from here I can send to but im hoping its something I can do. I thought it was battery prongs I widened them and it worked again. But then it went back to what it is doing now. I made my own headphones with waterproof earbuds with ikelite, but I can hear when threshold turned up. Any advice thanks capt.

Sounds like the battery is going dead. Hard to say.

Steve suggestion is what I would try next..... Charge your battery over night, take a reading what does it tell you. It should be between 12.5 and 13 volts on a full charge... Take a reading on your charger see what voltage it is putting out as well... Are you sure you have the custom headphoes wired correctly too..?

Did you have Dave look at it?

Wait, let me make sure I understand you correctly.

You bought a used Excal.

You began cutting and splicing in new headphones (earbuds).

The detector stopped working correctly.

NOW you are trying to blame the person who sold it to you?

Got the message. If I were you I'd be calling the slimeball out. But then I can be crass and tactless at times.
