It's months since I've seen a silver coin come out the ground...largely cause I've been chasing down a few colonial age sites on my list. Mercs are nice, never complain about silver, but what if I could pull even one coin out these places?
I was getting frustrated...buttons, buttons, buttons, buckles, musket balls...all pointing to a great age for the sites, but nothing definable in time, nothing embossed with a maker or a date.
Finally today I popped an odd shaped hunk of metal out of the ground, about to toss it in junk bag when I noticed it's a got a bit of a pattern...but instantly recognizable...Spanish Reale! Coin is about the size of US dime and WORN beyond belief, what see in details in the pic is all there is.
The "3" of the date is quite visible and from other pics I found online, this one most closely resembles 1660's...so I'm gonna call it 1663...either way, it's my oldest coin and my first actual "colonial" coin...and that was the whole point of pounding those old sites!
Vid will upload soon, I back logged on editing and uploading things!
