This has to have been my best day this year. :o

See the shots of the debased Roman Silver coming out the ground, had no idea it was silver until after the first photo.
I had:
Roman Silver - Severus Alexander - Rome AD232, Mars Reverse
3 Hammered:
Ed I - York Mint
Alexander III Scottish cut-halfpenny - Berwick Mint :o
Then on the way back to the car in the smaller field I got a loud hit I thought might be a coke can piece on the top, looked for it on the surface, picked up a white stone (thinking it might be it), but then spotted the hammered pocking out the grass :o Turns out to be a rare Henry VIII Groat :o

Stunning 6th Century AD Saxon Brooch
Stunning Saxon Mount
Fragment of a Saxon/Viking dagger chape
2 Medieval Buckles
1620s Royal Farthing
Georgian Gaming Token
A nice 17th Century Button - type I need

oh & Dad got a couple of buttons, 1 copper, 2 modernish coins

Great story and some top notch finds :notworthy: Would love to get over there from the states to hunt some sites like that! Jerry.
Thanks, Saxon is so rare they would be lining up from the UK as well to hit this one!

You make me sick :o

Where was all this :'(

Love it all......Banner post :icon_thumleft:

I'm ecstatic to hear that you are ticking off people on your side of the pond.
That is a good sign of excellent detecting skills.
Not being able to Google why?, well just too damn lazy, why is the Henry VIII so rare? Mintage?
Condition?
Problem with that wife thing?
Ticking off the Church?
Cheers, and kudos,
Carl

Oh yeah, Banner, yet again. :icon_thumright:

Condition is definately one, only a few years after this one the shortage of Silver meant many of these were debased or had copper cores. This one is in VF & high grade silver, its also a Groat which is a large coin (less about & lost). Plus as you say, being a well known King can't harm the price.

Thanks.
And I didn't know about the copper core in some of your silvers.
I lern at this site, much.

Why are they not Banner?
That's a very good question :icon_scratch: why isn't at least one of these finds on the Banner :dontknow: the Henry Groat is like finding hens teeth, in that condition :o the portraite is stunning, although the coin has a small chip in the flan, this coin would still command a very high price :o because HenryV111 portraite coins are notorius for being of poor quality and usually debased. Cru's coin there fore would be highly collectable for the portraite alone and would proberbly command a price of around a $1000 :o :o it is without doubt the best I have seen and belongs up top :icon_thumleft:

I think everybody should vote on this one :icon_thumleft:

Thanks & welcome to Tnet.

It sure was a day to remember, specially as the season is yet to start. I'm planning many more posts like this, although it will be mostly Roman this year. With some Celtic, medieval the odd random Saxon item

Yeah, heard a banging signal, thought it was part of a coke can but knew it was near or on the top so look down. Saw a white stone thingy & bent down to pick it up thinking it was it, as I did I saw it poking out. It was close to a footpath & near an area we had already walked over many times. Both Dad & I were kneeling on the ground looking at it & the people in the carpark were giving us funny looks as I took photos. I kept saying its a hammered & it looks like a big one, no idea it would be so rare, figured it would be a Lizzy sixpence.
