Hello,

I found this 1865 2 Cent Piece in the woods today. This is the first one I have ever found. It was found about ten feet from a grave marker? I didn't even swing the coil near that marker (bad juju), though I can't help but wonder if there are old coins in the ground above those bones. Very interesting to me how people were buried in random places back then.

Excellent find! Those 2 cent pieces are hard to find.

I've hunted several cemeteries over the years and always got permission. Our metal detector club was invited to help with the restoration of our old city cemetery a few years ago. We found several seated dimes, one half dime and a antique gold ring near the markers. A few civil war bronze stars placed in front of the civil war veteran grave stones were uncovered, we identified them and turned them in to the resoration crew. These unique bronze stars were about 5 inches across, they were attached to a bronze stake about 3 feet long. They had the letters G.A.R. in the center of the star (Grand Army of the Republic).

If you can get permission, go for it!

Bad ju-ju???? Must be talking about some kind of coffee... :icon_profileright:
I wouldn't hunt around the headstone.....or, even in a graveyard that I hadn't been given permission to hunt.
Almost as hard to extract lead from a person's rear end, as it is to extract a rare coin from concrete. Some folks
would get a little more than upset. Great find.....but, be careful...
