First 2011 hunt brings baby silver at 1820's house

Headed out to the 1820's house today for my first hunt of the new year. Overcast and muddy but warm, and no rain until late afternoon. Dug a variety of relics in the yard and out in the horse pastures. I guess my best find for the day had to be the sterling silver baby spoon. It was under a root of a huge oak next to the house. Came out in great shape and it looks to be fairly old.

Other finds were:
*Two 1800's flat buttons w/shanks (one Treble Gilt)
*Suspender clip
*A clip with a rabbit & bear on it. Looks 1800's?
*RFD padlock
*Pocket knife
*Asst'd & unknown

Thanks for looking,
MM

Way to start your new year! Some nice finds, and I'd call that Sterling Silver spoon and VERY nice find.

BTW, RFD means different things in different parts of the US. Here locally, it is apt to mean Rural Fire Department.

Thanks Tuberale. :icon_thumleft:
Here the RFD stands for Relics Found Daily. :laughing7:

There is no doubt that you are on some early ground there, Dug. Those buttons scream early 19th century, so keep on digging, buddy, because the other stuff will pop soon!

Thanks Kyle.
Just a few nice early 1800's coins would make my day from this place. It's a bit tough to detect due to the false signals from all the electric fencing around the horse pastures.
One things for sure, my baby food is tasting a LOT better eating it with this silver spoon. :binkybaby:
Good luck this year you Colonial magnet. :icon_thumleft:

Doug,
Good to see you are back at it. Those flat buttons are a sign of good things to come.

Silver is always welcome in any form. 8)

very nice hunt!

Thanks HMN. Those fences are killing me! It's taking twice as long to grid an area. I get a signal, do another sweep and it's not there again. :BangHead: False signals. The strong signals do ring through though, but I can only think that I may be missing small targets. :dontknow:

Thanks Dawg.
I have LOTS of horse pastures to grid and then there are acres & acres of woods. Somewhere out there was a cemetery I am told. Hopefully there are some marked stones out there to give a bit of the older history. :dontknow:

Hey Doug...Those are some nice relic finds. The best find is the property itself. Congrats on the great research. The Tap Key may also be a radiator key. My old house used to have them and I remember my dad would have to drain the air out of them every so often. The were small with a square hex nut cut into it. You would insert them into the drain stem and turn it until the steam turned to hot water. It's been 40 years I can still see my Dad doing this with the key and a cup to catch the water. Funny what you remember.

Jim,
You might be right on that being a radiator key. I remember those too as a wee lad in the 60's. We lived in an old late 1800's house and had those radiators. Man, I'm getting old! :tongue3:
Thanks,
Doug
