Crusader invited me up to try out my new detector and help him finish a field today ;D

The first part of the day didn't go to well, i managed to jump in a ditch that looked dry and find out it was only the top inch or so that was dry! i had some trouble getting my shoe back!

Things improved after cru put his pinny on and cooked lunch on the BBQ

I got two nicely decorated tombac buttons (among others)
My oldest thimble yet (beehive i think) and in great condition!
Part of a decorated early medieval "D" buckle and a nice 2nd century roman coin!

Nice hunt shaun7. I like seeing that medieval stuff. That thimble looks to be in great shape.

Forgot to say, I don't think it will be long before you have mastered it. You picked up the sounds very quickly, soon your voice in your head will guess 'medium button 4inches'

That should help him walk on water.

Did you get out to the ploughed field today?

I went down there early, and the farmer's son was riding his motor bike all over it! I turned tail and went for a long walk...

It's getting hard work there now anyhow, I'm hitting solid clay in parts and only finding iron. I need moral support there, I may find a couple of local MD'ers who may fancy joining me.

Well.. I'm off to Cyprus next weekend for 10 days (Wish they'd let me MD over there, it'd be a hoot!)

If you ever fancy a trip 'oop north' to the Mids, I'll clear it with the farmer, and you'd be welcome as far as I'm concerned.

By the way.... I'm trying to cosy up to a farmer who has fields virtually right on the A5 on Staffs/Shrops border... Plenty of Roman activity round that way.

If he gives me the nod, then you and Lord Shaun would be more than welcome to spend time on it with me. But he has to wear that shoe... :tongue3:
