I haven't done much toward 2008 as I am still finishing the last bags from 2007.

However, on Jan 2nd I picked up 4 half dollars (2 - 40% Kennedy (1966, 1968-D)

And today I decided to be adventurous to open the year and picked up
1 - $1000 bag of quarters
2 - $50 bags of pennies

I just finished a quick edge search on the quarters.
1 - 1967 Canadian Quarter (silver)
6 other Canadian (1969, 1974, 1982, 1989, 2005-P, 2006-P)

Now the tricky part. I know there are two varieties of 1967 Canadian quarters. One is 50% silver and one is 80% silver. Any idea how I can tell the difference? If there is not an easy way to do it, I will need to change the tracking list to only include 1967 as one option for Canadian dimes and quarters.

Though I have identified another source for bags for this year.

Yup, both the 50% and 80% have the bobcat (some call it a jaguar, some a lynx).

The Charlton catalog (they use "bobcat") says: "The two types are not distinguishable by eye." Both are 5.83 grams.

A Coin World reader posed this question to their resident expert Alan Herbert and the best he came up with was the 80% tends to have more of a silverish luster, which works if you have an UNC example!

My suggestion would be the "drop" test. Compare it to what a pre-1967 sounds like. If it's even slightly different than you've got a 50%.

if it is not silver it will stick to a magnet.

All 1967s are silver and don't stick to magnets. GMan's trying to figure out if it's 50% silver or 80%.

Finished the first bag of pennies

Kinda felt like someone had been picking out the copper on part of the bag, just lots of new coins. Still ended up with

11 wheat pennies (1944-D(2), 1946, 1949, 1956-D, 1957-D(3), 1958-D(3))

24 Canadian (1961, 1970, 1973, 1975, 1977(3), 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1985, 1986, 1989(2), 1990, 1991, 1993, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2005(2), 2006)

1 - 1976 memorial counterpunched with OH

Finished the other bag of pennies from this batch.....obviously they had been previously searched.

1 wheat penny (1953-D)

25 Canadian (1968, 1969(2), 1971, 1973, 1974(2), 1977(2), 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1985(2), 1987, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2002)

Narrowly avoided my first skunk penny bag as the wheat was in the last 4-5 handfuls...I'll take it and keep my streak alive...for now.
