Today it was going to be in the high 30's. :sunny: I know this weather will not last so I decided to finish the grid on the football field. When I got to the site and geared up I meandered towards the other end where my grid was. On the way there the 1st target was a weird silver ring. :icon_thumleft: I took that as a good omen. Nice to get a start on this years ring count. (Right, Skippy?) :dontknow:

Half way through today's grid on the 5 yard line (in the center of the field) I got a silver signal that would not repeat in all directions. I dug down 8 inches and pulled the first silver coin for the year, it's a 1932 Washington. :icon_thumleft: The place still has a fair amount of clad, and I'm sure a couple more keeper coins and some jewelry are still buried. I ended up pulling a little over $10 in three and a half hours.

Great way to start off the year Kevin! I think it's going to be a great year for all of us. Every day it's above freezing puts us that much closer to spring.

Pickin' it up right where you left off, Loco-Digger!! 95 targets (not counting trash) dug........did you move more than one step at a time?? WOW!!
If that (1st signal) silver ring is a portent of things to come, you'd better hang on and get a large container ready for all your 2017 silvers!!

Great way to start the new year!

Thanks, it's nice when you pull at least one keeper a day.

Cheers to you and the finds. A 1932 Washington is a great find.$$

Thanks, the quarter fills a slot in my coin folder. It's a win to dig the coin and a win/win when it fills a slot in the collection. (I only collect what I dig or are given by friends and family).

Great way to start off the year Kevin! I think it's going to be a great year for all of us. Every day it's above freezing puts us that much closer to spring.

Thanks Joe, I agree, it's going to be a great season and now that your swinging the beast, LOOK OUT.

Nice start congrats on the silver and other finds

Thanks Art

Congrats and good luck ahead

Thanks

Thanks Chizzy, I believe i had a 5 to 1 ration (coins to trash). I do not dig all trash targets, but when good targets are slim, sometimes you just got to dig one to just to keep your head in the game. Now that it's been gridded from sideline to sideline, I need to change my direction by 90 degrees and hit it again. Thinking about installing my 12" x 15" coil for the next grid to see if I can swing over some more deep silvers or other good finds. Good luck in 2017 with your new detector.

So, have you set a silver goal for the year?

Thanks Dave, My silver goal for 2015 was 50 and I beat that by 5 so my goal for 2016 was 60 but I only pulled 45. To be on the safe side I will shoot for 50 this year. Hoping I don't lose 8 weeks of permission hunting in Jul-Aug like I did this past year due to heat and lack of rain.

Thanks Tom, unfortunately it's not a D or S mint mark, but it's the 1st year they were made and it fills a slot in the collection. We will definitely have to make some time to hunt together this season. Looking forward to it. Keep on hunting, I do until the dirt freezes.

Awesome first hunt! :occasion14:

Thanks Doc, I'm just trying to keep up with you and your daughter.

A couple of Sweet silvers on your first hunt sure looks good for a first hunt. I'd be happy with one silver for my first hunt.
Congrats and Good Luck for 2017!!
