And first 1800s U.S. coin. And it only took me 8 long years! I've pounded this site for the past 4 years knowing it was there somewhere and today I got it. I don't know why it has eluded me for so long. California is not an easy place to find them I know that. A little crusty 1865 soaking in the peroxide. IMG_3993.JPG

Great find! I’ve been dying to find one of those here in Florida. One day soon, hopefully.

Great job there! I think it took me 2 years before I found one now I find them pretty frequently. I live in Massachusetts and it's amazing: I found Spanish silver, British coppers, and US large cents all before an IHP! I think it's due to their nature of ringing up all over the place on machines or maybe just luck. I love finding those so I know how excited you must be!!!

Yeah, I know the excitement. Took me better than 2 years to score mine. To add to the excitement... 6 feet away I dug a musket ball.
Congratulations!!

Congrats! My wife and i are new to detecting and we had to put a lot of hours in before we found any IHP's, lumber camps are not the best place to look for coins ive since learned; most woodcutters were paid at the end of the season, with company store credit, etc.

What type of site are you working?

Long abandoned homestead with gold rush activity. I've also dug a few Chinese cash coins and a ton of original Levi's rivets and some period bottles.

Congratulations on your first Indian Head Cent! :occasion14:
Mine was a 1905 and at first I thought I had a weird looking Wheat Cent.
