Recon'd a new abandoned farm site today. This was only a couple inches down. Does anyone know what the appropriate age is of this piece? Is it a Civil War soldier? Paint on uniform is brown?

A few other quick finds from this hunt; pocket mirror, pearlescent effect glass surface find and a buckle or farm strap piece.

This is a large site in the woods with multiple foundations and wells discovered. I need to do a bit more research to determine which foundation is the actual home through historical aerial photos. Followed one path during the recon that ended at an actual man made stacked stone enclosed spring with flowing water into a basin, one of the cool moments we get to experience.

More photos and hopefully more finds next post.

Good luck out there!

Don't think Civil War soldier, as the weapon and the blouse/tie/jacket look more WW2-ish. GREAT find for the lead content, if nothing else. Nicely done.

PDNS. Your soldier was made by Barclay, an American toy company, between 1935-1942ish. He is marching with a rifle and would have had a tin helmet attached to the top of his head with a wire spring. Here is a photo of a complete one (he is on the right.) Happy Hunting, Sub 8-)

Thank you! You nailed it. Unfortunately he suffered a fatal wound and will be added to my mini mausoleum. Tnet comes through with another ID.
