Went pheasant hunting today. I have no dog, so it's more like hiking with a 12 gauge.
I found an obsidian chip though, and thought maybe I should hunt for obsidian instead....and later I found this!

I found a bunch of flakes, and then when I picked this up it took me a while to process it. So happy to find it, so bummed it's broken.......

Thanks- yeah the area was good, I found a lot of obsidian. The problem is 90% of it all is covered in weeds so it's tough. But the obsidian sure stands out in the sunlight

Thanks everyone. I can't stop thinking about getting back out there...

Nice find are you out west ?

Yes, I am in Idaho.

I grew up in colorado and out there everything was mostly red/tan/white chirt.

I wish I could pull the ground cover but its this stuff called cheat-grass and it's everywhere.

You know the stuff that works it's way through your shoes, your socks and eventually finds it's way into your brain. ;)
Sucks.

@ crj believe it or not if you stand rite above and look straight down sometimes you can see straight to the dirt and find them. I call it hunting the jungle and do it here in GA.

Rock- yeah I hear ya there. Still I'd like to find a nice clear patch somewhere. That stupid cheat grass made it's way here from the middle east and is taking over. If you're bored...or interested. Why Cheatgrass Is A Vexing Issue In Idaho, And What's Being Done About It | Boise State Public Radio

DigIron2- Obsidian is a volcanic black glass. It's pretty crazy stuff and seems to hold up to the elements extremely well.
When you find flakes it appears they were just put there. Shiny, clean and suprisingly sharp
