Florida Frame #40

I might have shown this before...I don’t have a frame for it or it would be #40...information is on it, I have had it for 50 years and never knew what it was until several months ago, it’s a Mayan yoke....fascinating artifacts. Thanks for lookin

Look em up ...the Mayan Indians used em in Mexico, This one probably was brought to Crystal river across the Gulf, some were also found in the other gulf states...A friend found it at Crystal River Florida, then was sold then I traded some points for it....Trade with Central America was going on, there’s too many similarities in some of the stuff we find here...I don’t know exactly how flint yokes were used, I never really researched em..why don’t you do that for me Fatz,...I’m serious....It’s extremely sharp,..Learning something every day..

I traded several Florida points for it, my friend Found it and it changed hands a couple of times before I traded for it, no one wanted it cuzz nobody knew what it was but I didn’t care,.it came from Florida and I wanted it...

Yoke is just a reference to the shape and the size, I don't think the archaeologists/collectors who named them back in the day pictured them hitched up to horses/oxen.

To know the reason/function about this piece (which is an amazing piece of work I might add), would really be interesting.
The Yoke being the size it is, an actual working piece, or a piece that would of being worn as some sort of symbolism for an elder/or one of knowledge.
Either way you have a real unique piece of history.

I know more about it now than I did 40 years ago, no one here knew what it was...the fact that it was found in Florida is interesting to me...the flint is not from Florida but the weathering and patina ( heavy, pic. 4 ) is common for stuff that lays in yellow sand around here..Thanks for the info..
