Folks,

After being shut down since late fall finally got in a mid day hunt yesterday....this sports field has been pounded pretty hard by me over the years but still gives up the odd surprise.

In any event I dug a bit of clad and the usual junk and got a good solid signal and out popped this nice watch fob...just a guess I'd say about WW1 era.

It says home sweet home and along the bottom says "back to Montreal" the central area has the Montreal crest from the city flag.

One of our relic experts mentioned it might have been a keepsake given out to veterans returning from the war.

It'll go in my keeper pile for sure.

Regards + HH

It's always nice finding something for that keeper pile. Congrats on the watch fob.

Billfromlachine...isn't it nice to carry home that ONE keeper!?...kinda like golf...u can hack your way through 18 holes..but that ONE sweet shot to the center of the green makes it all awesome...congrats...definitely a great keeper...Ddf

My first inclination, or question...
It's in English, not French?....
it's a great find, that's for sure.

Yup,
The keepers makes up for all those pulltabs and other junk we all dig....I'd take a find like that over a pouch full of clad any day.

Sweet fob. Congrats!

Dave,

Funny you should mention that but the city crest shows the fleur de lis (French), thistle(Scottish), tudor rose (British) and shamrock (Irish) to represent the 4 founding cultures of the city.

So even though Montreal has a French/European flair still lots of people of English descent in the city.

No doubt they had a French version of the memento which they gave out to the returning soldiers of French descent.

Awesome fob, congrats

Beautiful fob, Bill, congratulations. It is great that you can have a leather smith make you a loop and keep using that fob 100 years later. Sub 8-)

Congrats! Nice to get back out swinging and a pretty sweet find!

Folks,

Thanks for all the positive comments....I don't post my finds all that often and tend to just post up finds that are a bit out of the ordinary thinking that most members like myself enjoy the oddball or unusual items that are found.
