Just an FYI. Here in NE Arkansas, we seem to be about the last people in the country to receive the "new" coins. When I see boxes/rolls of the new coins being offered on eBay, it is literally months before I see them in circulation here. Well, I am finding MANY 2009 dimes now. Nearly everytime I make a purchase somewhere, I receive at least 1 2009 dime in change. If any of you are holding these with intentions of selling, I think NOW is the time...if its not too late already. As I said, just an FYI and I hope this helps. HH everyone!

Thanks for the info. The dimes are starting to show up all over, but not
the nickels.

It's like that here except with 2010 nickels, dimes and cents. They are everywhere! The 2009 coins must have been held back for whatever reason.

Whether the '09 nickels and dimes are "showing up" or not; you can't argue with the mint figures. 2008 is indicative of prior year mint totals and they've already minted more (in the first half) of '10; than all of '09.

Supposedly the recession reduced the demand and the US Mint responded by stopping production in late April of '09.

Arkie,

I'd LOVE a few rolls of the 2009 dimes if you find them. Can you sell me some? Since they are more prevelant, I'm looking for face value, plus I'll pay your shipping, of course. But I'd love some rolls of 2009 dimes. My son was born in 2009, and i think they are going to be tough to find in the long term future, so I'm looking to pust some away and when he is 50 he can see if they have any value. :-)

Please let me know if you have some you can send this way.

Thanks. :-)

i'm not holding onto any of the new dimes but i am holding onto any of the new pennies i find. i have been finding alot of the final pennies with the shield on the back in almost uncirculated condition. however the first pennies in the series are showing up in horrible shape. my theory is this. these new pennies are all zinc and corrode extremely fast. who's to say that in the next few years all these pennies will be all but unrecognizable. a few rolls of the almost uncirculated may bring a few bucks in the years to come.

Never hurts to keep a few, but you have to be kididng yourself to think that any of this modern currency will be worth much in your lifetime. Yes, MS type coins have some value to collectors but everyone is holding on to them thinking the same thing you are. Just like baseball cards during my childhood, everyone bought them, put them in protective sleeves and though they would be worth hundreds of times what you paid. Just aint going to happen in this century.
