Got out New Year’s Day w a buddy for a nice afternoon hunt. I managed a unidentifiable cut copper and other bits. Well he found a newly cleared section of woods. And he calls me says he’s got a silver w funny symbols on it. So I dropped what I was doing and went to find him. So walking up it’s out of the hole and in top of the plug. From afar it looked like a quarter. But upon closer inspection ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1546552242.391389.jpg

Definitely Japanese. From my limited read so far, it may be late 1800's.

Very cool find, Congrats!!!

Yak,
Excellent coin dating reference source; thanks.
Don.....

Thanks Don!! I was trying to find the exact character pattern for the date by just going through google images, and lucked up on that perfect reference.

Interesting; I read the third date character as a '6' making it 2X10 +6; ergo, 1867 +26 or 1893AD; just as shown in the last pic of "yak's" reference source.
Don..

It's one of the two characters. I felt it was the 8 by the outward stroke of the lines. Maybe tomsneck can clarify the character for us.

Still a sweet silver find, Congrats!!!

Nothing I love more than finding weird little coins! Getting it home and trying to ID it is more than half the fun. Congrats.
