Finally got out for a little hunt at a park on the Arkansas river found a scorpion or what us Hill folk call a stinging lizard That I thought was brass but after cleaning it up it has 14K on the back never saw 14K brass anyway I needed to find some jewelry it does not look plated but still I am happy with it

That looks like a scorpion - I've experienced some of those. But it certainly doesn't look 14k either. Metal testing acids are very inexpensive - and I feel every serious detectorist should have at least the basic metals testing equipment. We're here for the duration :)

But I'm also enchanted by your find. It's a cool and GREAT find regardless of the metal composition.

I grow up knowing what a stinging lizard was and what they can do to a bear foot at night but was grown before I knew what a scorpion was I thought I mite get everyone but Arkansas, Ok. and Texas folks attention

very cool find, acid test will tell the truth. of course the alloy make up makes a little difference on how it might look. But I have been burned by fake 14K jewelry

I had a 14k bracelet that was gold but had a lot of copper in it and it had that look, It was a Mexican made piece but it was gold with a high copper content It sold for $600.00 in scrap value so definitely get it tested.A scorpion would be something South American goldsmiths would make and sell.
