Hey everyone! Had a friend take me back to a foundation in the woods today. It dates back to the 1800s but is extremely trashy. There is tons of trash from the 60s scattered all over the place. Still managed to pull a old spoon/fork handle....a toasty 1900 IH cent...and a few other things. On the way back i saw something strange in the field and went to investigate. I can't believe i have never noticed this before! Its some kind of foundation.... I don't know if it was a house or barn or what... Maybe someone could help me out. And possibly age it by the type of construction. right by the foundation there is a mound with 4 corner stones. This newly discovered site is a stones throw away from a colonial site where we found many flat buttons from the 1790s-1820s. any help would be appreciated with the handle hallmarks or foundation. Thanks for looking everyone!

Hey Indiana Jones. Thanks for your reply! By plot map do you mean a map of the locations? If so i drew one out for you! I tried my best... Not the best artist in the world haha. The ''trashy foundation'' on the top is where i found all my stuff today. Its actually farther up then the map depicts ... Just ran out of drawing room. The mound in the field is where we found all the buttons . Its very close to the newly discovered foundation. on the new foundation there is four corner stones as depicted... They are raised up on a mound. And the depression with the stones in my picture is right below it. Feel free to ask anymore questions people! I'm trying my best to explain. Its difficult. Thanks!

Maybe the 4 stones are the corners of a mill house. With the curvature of the masonry that's what it reminds me of.

We'll make a arc out of you yet:)

Plot maps (done in a grid system) show the correct distances and recoveries. Plot maps help to tell a story.

More important they can show other locations where to search. Why treasure hunters should have an interest in doing this.

Can see where they had their water source.

Did you look in the creek for artifacts?

It seems human activity from 1790 to the current day exist, decreasing after the 60's.

Have you looked for Indian artifacts in the area?

Fossils?

Research at the local library tax office etc should help.

Best

Jones

I was also thinking silo because of the curve of the stone. And yes there was Indian activity in the area. Shards of flint in every hole you dig

Can anyone give a estimate date by the type of stone work? Its almost like a type of concrete using large river stones
