I got out for a couple of hours yesterday and hunted a nearby football field. I always wait until the last game of the season is played before I venture out on the actual playing area. I have had very good luck over the years metal detecting on football fields. I've found quite a few nice rings that way. It's a good idea to always ask before you go. I found a nice little sterling (cat) ring. One very old round pistol bullet. I used an online conversion chart to convert the measurement. It came out to be about a 39.37 caliber bullet. Here's a link to the site if you would like to use it to check your bullets.

Merry Christmas to you all.

Hello there highlander. I was guessing the bullets age by the patina. It is very white like it has been in the ground over a hundred years. If you are thinking it might be buckshot let me know what you are thinking. I have been known to be wrong. Thanks a bunch.

most buckshot is between .24 number 4 buck and .33 double oo buck they do make buck and ball but it looks to me to be a .40 muzzleloader round. the cloth wadding took up the additional diameter in the barrel.
I melt my own lead for all my muzzleloaders from .44 .45 .62
the .44 is actually .451 diameter no wadding around the bullet just between the charge/bullet revolver.
the .45 is actually .440 because of the wadding that goes around it.
the .62 is actually .648

That was a great explanation. Thank you for helping out. It's been a good day when you learn something. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
