Hey everyone, i think i may have found a privy but i'm not completely sure. I found a new cellar hole and about 5 feet from the hole was a huge flat rock. One of my friends said we should move the rock because they believe it is a privy. So my friends and i moved the massive rock, using a car jack to lift it lol. I dug about 2 feet and found some bones, nails, a thimble, glass and pottery shards as well as pieces of old smoking pipes. The outer edge of the hole is lined by rocks but not like how a well is lined. I have never dug a privy before and i do not have a probe so i need help in identifying one. Do any of you think that this is worth digging? All suggestions would be appreciated, thanks Sarah.

That could most certainly be the privy. If you are in an area to where it is aloud, I'd say dig it to be safe! Hope you find something great. Be sure to post pictures if possible!

I hope it is loaded but hopefully i won't have to dig like 10 feet until i find something lol. I'm going back today and if i find anything i'll definitely let you guys know and i'll post some pics. Sarah, please have someone go with you, as it isn't safe to dig alone especially when there is loose rock involved. Can't wait to see pictures that i know you will be posting soon. Good luck and be careful

Well?

How'd you do?

Five feet from the house is close. I'm going to guess what you found was the filled in well.

So, Sarah,

Did you and Justin ever dig this one? Are you saving it for a non-rainy day?

Hi surf. We attempted to dig this privy but it was full of huge boulders about two feet down that we were unable to move.

Hi surf. We attempted to dig this privy but it was full of huge boulders about two feet down that we were unable to move.

Wow,what a shame.
I find a lot of possible dig sites but, getting permission is another thing. My bottle hunting will pretty much be put on hold probably until late Spring,at least on the mountain.
Most my finds are from surface finds and with the leaves falling finding bottles impossible.
If I could find a privy or bottle dump with some depth, game on.

Yea the leaves definitely makes it difficult to find bottles on the surface but it's not impossible. We just found a pretty sweet bottle dump on a river bank and we pulled a lot of really awesome bottles out and there's still more to be found. Don't give up, you'll find something :)
