Great job.....I learned to dig "iffy" half dollar signals this week too. There was no nickel with mine, but the signal I was getting sounds similar.

So, tell us....was the 42 Nickel a war nickel...or a regular one? The War nickels were 35 percent silver and have a large mintmark over the dome of Monticello on the coin's reverse.

Nice half. I have found some nice barber halfs in park woods. Great places to hunt and almost always looked over.

WOW!! What a walk in the park that was!! I believe that should be 2 silvers in the same hole. Should be a mint mark above the dome on the back of the nickel, indicating it's part silver.
They needed the nickel for the war effort. Might want to post the nickel, their a nice find too. WTG!! HH

My best guess is that it's a regular 42 nickel and not the silver variety since the second reading was "pulltab". My machine IDs a war nickel at about 50...well above pulltab.

Good digs, AK! I had a similar experience in a private yard I was hunting. got that high silver tone, followed by nickel and then zinc. Kept going over it and kept getting the three tones and the three TIDs.... half dollar, nickel, zinc. Turned out to be a Walker half, a couple of war nickels, and 3 steel war wheats. I was thrilled!

Congrats!
