Yours looks to have a steel back, not a good choice of metal whilst at Sea.
Pretty sure it's an imitation type used on Civilian blazers. (Fashion button)
I'm sure one of our US friends will have the right books to confirm/deny my best guess based on its attributes. Seen many of these posted before.
