I added some more pics. I wish I knew how old this thing is does anyone know how far back the STERLING marking goes back?

If memory serves me correct, I think "Sterling" marks started in 1867... I remember looking it up trying to date a piece I found in a CW camp and coming up with the marks all being post-CW

It looks to be Victorian , from the late 1800's to early 1900's . They were the big time style then. This one looks almost the same as my Greatgrand mothers looked. She had a few of them from that time and her Mothers also. I still have two of them that were given to me when she passed away.

I do not know if this was the way it was to be used , but she used to make a wax seal on her letters to special people and use that ring to make an imprint in the wax , like they did in the times of old.
I have one of those letters with the wax imprint that she made for me when I was a little bitty guy . Would not give it up for no amount of money.

That was what I was hoping to hear I thought it looked Victorian but I never dug a ring before. Thanks for the info.
