found ths button at a 1700s home site, anyone know?

It appears to be a variation of a French Naval Artillery button of they type used around 1803-1805. Usually the number of the Regiment is fully spelled out but this one seems to be made to have the number handstamped into the space , which apparently never happened . Other ones of this basic type have been found on other sites in the South.
