Found my first 1923-S RARER Peace Dollar today... any suggestions on cleaning it ?

Tis in good condition...
just tarnished really good.
I do not wanna tarnex it for it could be worth a few bucks.
And I do not wanna polish... or use electro.

Suggestions ?
this will not be a "keeper" for me and will sell it ... but wondering if it should be cleaned and the best way to do it for sale.

In great condition these can bring over a grand... and up to 5 I have seen online.
Even in crappy condition it seems they are pulling 50ish bucks...
IT is the S which is the rarer one

I mean, seriously, why use abrasion/tumbling, etc to clean silvers? For goodness sake, read my post in cleaning and preservation about silver coins.

First let me say Congratulations on finding a wonderful large Silver coin ! I too found a 1923-S Peace - scratched the %$# out of it with
a probe (cause I thought it was a beer can !) This is in no way a rare mintage - It only Redbooks at $100 in Mint State 63 - so this one
could be cleaned with a brillo pad if you so desired (though I certainly wouldn't recommend it ! )

He's absolutely right. You need a MS grade just to get over $100, and looking at what a perfect one would bring is no way to value coins because the prices increase bigtime in higher grades as the degree of rarity climbs greatly when you get to the best of the best.

ARRC , I told you straight away where I got My information - ("RedBook") I wasn't in any way trying to devalue your find
just letting you know that even in a lower Mint State- 63. it's about a $100. coin . Referencing values for high grade coins
has nothing to do with this discussion.

Ahhh, if I dig it ----its 2X2 worthy 'with date & local found' even if it's a common Rosie .
Someone can break them out for scrap in the future.

"Sudsy Ammonia" dip with a Baking Soda & Distilled Water Dip on the side to stop the cleaning Process .
? Might be worth trying? IMO
On future Common dug coins.

I always look at completed listings on Ebay. From what I can tell, looks like your coin will bring around $25 - $30 if you are lucky. Most of the ones listed for more than that in that condition didn't sell. Hope you get what you are asking !!

Found well over a hundred of these in one shot once... and no "S"'s heh.

I agree, 1923 s is one of the most commonly available Peace dollars, it has the third highest mintages in the series.

Welp... NOW... that it is "clean"... we can SEE the "state" of the coin... heh
PRE posting of pics... it was black with gold streak and crusty.
There was no way of "seeing" it till now.
Now that it is clean...
I knew this was no "1000" dollar coin.
And again...
These pristine... go for bucks... I do not know what the fuss is...
I just watched one last year sell for 1200 and something.

I personally would rather a tarnished coin to shiny one. I hunt for history bumps bruises and tarnish are part of the coins journey. If we wanted shiny new coins pcgs will sell them to you

See my 09-s vdb I just posted with before and after pics of cleaning in a sonication unit, (like a jewelery cleaner), with just DISTILLED water (not tap). IF you want to clean it, this will not hurt your coin as long as you don't put in ANY detergent or anything except distilled water. You can get one at any Walmart.
